Dear Junior Parents and Families,
We are excited to offer eligible 11th-grade students the opportunity to participate in the Henry Ford College (HFC) Pre-Engineering Middle College Program. This program allows students to begin earning college credit while still in high school at no cost to families.
Eligibility & Application Deadline
Students must have a minimum 2.7 GPA to participate. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, September 2.
Families interested in participating must complete both the HFC application process and the Google Form provided by UPSM. A step-by-step presentation explaining how to apply to HFC is attached to this email.
The UPSM Google Form is required so that I have an accurate list of interested students, can verify student eligibility, and can submit required documents, including transcripts and PSAT scores, to Henry Ford College.
Class Schedule & Location
Classes will begin Thursday, September 10- December 14th.
Tuesdays and Thursdays
8:00 AM–10:00 AM
Henry Ford College – MTEC Campus
3601 Schaefer Road, Building MT
Dearborn, MI 48126
Transportation Expectations
Students using school-provided transportation must arrive at UPSM by 7:15 AM to catch the bus to HFC.
Parents may also choose to drop their student off directly at HFC's MTEC Campus. Students must arrive before 8:00 AM so they are seated and ready for class on time.
After class, students are responsible for being outside the MTEC main entrance and on the UPSM bus by 10:10 AM. The bus cannot wait for students who are late. If a student misses the return bus, it will be the parent/guardian's responsibility to arrange transportation back to UPSM so the student can attend the remainder of the school day.
Academic, Attendance & Behavior Expectations
Participation in a dual enrollment or Middle College program is a privilege. While there is no cost to students or families, UPSM assumes the financial cost associated with student participation.
Because of this investment, students are expected to take the opportunity seriously. Students must:
Attend class consistently and on time.
Maintain appropriate behavior and represent UPSM professionally while on HFC's campus.
Follow all HFC and UPSM expectations.
Successfully complete each course with a grade of C or higher. Students who fail their class will have a $100 balance added to their student account that must be paid within 90 days.
Remain responsible for their regular UPSM coursework and attendance.
Students who do not meet the academic, attendance, or behavioral expectations of the program may be dismissed from participation.
Parent/Guardian Collaboration Is Required
Family support is essential to student success in this program. Attendance is mandatory. Before applying, please carefully consider whether your student can commit to attending every Tuesday and Thursday and meeting the early morning transportation requirements. If consistent attendance will be a challenge, students should not enroll in the program at this time.
Please review the attached step-by-step HFC application presentation and complete the required Google Form so I can begin verifying interested students and submitting the necessary documentation.
